Please your love with Valentines Day Pictures
There are many versions on the history of Valentine’s Day. One popular version is that in ancient Roman times, February 14th was a holiday to honor Juno, the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. She was also known by the Roman people as the Goddess of women and of marriage. On the 15th of February was a celebration called the Feast of Lupercalia. In those days, young girls and boys were kept separate in their everyday lives. On the eve of this famous festival, all of the names of the girls were written on small pieces of paper and put into jars. The boys would then take turns and draw names out of the jars, and the girl they drew would become their partners for the festival and sometimes for an entire year at other important events. It is said that these young couples often fell in love and later become husband and wife.
Claudius had a strong belief that unmarried men made much better soldiers because they were more focused and because of this, he strictly prohibited members of his army from marrying. It is said that Valentine did not believe this and performed secret marriages for the young couples in spite of the emperor’s orders. Another popular version is that Saint Valentine was an imprisoned man who had fallen deeply in love with the daughter of the jailor who held him. Just before he was to be put to death, he had written a love letter to the jailor’s daughter, proclaiming his love for her and signed the letter ‘from your Valentine’. This very same wording is used in Valentine’s Day cards, gifts and embossed on candy as a symbol of the day.
So, as you can see, there is more than one theory as to what is the real meaning behind this day set aside to celebrate love. No matter what you may believe as to the origins of Valentine’s Day, no one can argue the fact that it is a day to shower the people you love with symbols of your devotion.
We all know that Valentine’s Day is marked by the exchange of candy, flowers, gifts, jewelry and other gestures to celebrate our love for one another. Today this holiday is very much commercialized with stores full of heart-shaped gifts, candies of all types, Valentine-themed toys, clothing, perfume and collectibles.
Many men take this day to show their wives or girlfriends how much they are loved by buying expensive gifts such as elaborate jewelry , large stuffed animals, beautiful bouquets of flowers or even preparing a special romantic dinner. Valentine’s Day is also a day that many men choose to propose marriage to their sweethearts because it is considered ‘the day of love’. Many couples want to be sure to remember this special day by taking pictures for Valentine day so they do not forget the special celebrations they shared on this day. In the elementary schools in the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the classrooms each and every year. All of the kids bring with them one special Valentine’s Day card to put on the desk or in a special basket for each of their classmates. Valentine’s Day pictures are taken by the teachers and the children are treated to cookies and cupcakes decorated with red or pink hearts. Often red colored clothing is worn as red is the symbolic color of the day. February 14th is also a very popular day for many couples to wed. Could you think of a better day to exchange vows with the person you love than on Valentine’s Day?

So, as noted, there are many, many ways to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day, but one thing everyone can agree on, is that the 14th of February is a day set aside to honor love and to honor the loved ones in our lives.
